The aim of Stornoway Running and Athletics Club’s 100 Club is to raise funds to assist the club’s young developing club athletes to attend the bye annual NatWest World Island Games. Qualifying standards for the different track and field events have been set by the athletics team managers which gives the club’s athletes targets to reach throughout their development with the goal of making the team.
SRAC athletes have represented the Western Isles Island Games team at three Games since the Western Isles became involved. In 2005 at the Shetland Games Eve Carrington won the Western Isles first ever NatWest World Island Games medal, taking silver in the high jump, Eilidh MacKenzie won bronze in the 800 meters and the men’s 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 also won bronze medals. In Rhodes 2007 there was more medal successes’ for SRAC athletes in the Western Isles squad. Eve Carrington took bronze in the high jump and silver in the triple jump while Eilidh MacKenzie won the first ever gold medal for the Western Isles team in the 800 meters in a new Games record! There was further success for athletes at the 2009 Games in Aland with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals won by the athletics squad! How can you help? – Each month you can contribute as little as £2 by standing order to SRAC’s 100 Club to help in our fund raising efforts to assist young developing athletes in their aspiration to take part in future World Island Games. Each 100 Club member will be entered into a monthly draw, with the member drawn form “the hat” winning £50! Please help towards the future successes’ of SRAC’s young athletes by becoming a member of OUR 100 Club. Funds being raised now will go towards funding SRAC athletes that will represent the Western Isles at the NatWest World Island Games in the Isle of Wight 2011.
