SRC/SRAC 25th Reunion
Hi all you past & present Stornoway runners!
For some time now I've been pulling together as many e mail contacts as possible to invite both past and present members (of SRC - as it was - and now SRAC) to let you know of this year's 25th anniversary of the club and to invite you to a reunion at the Caberfeidh Hotel on Saturday 27th November.
You will all have different memories of your running days for Stornoway and no doubt for some the running days may be nothing more now but a memory! However it would be fantastic to see as many of you as possible on the 27th to reminisce on your glory days and also the great craic that's been had over the quarter century! You all played a part in the history of SRC/SRAC and I hope many of you will look to putting the reunion date in your calender!
SRAC will be arranging a quarter century exhibition of memorabilia including, race medals, certificates, pictures, race numbers, race t-shirt's and anything else you think you'd like to contribute for the display. The exhibition will run for either two weeks leading up till the 27th November or the week before and after. So there are a number of way's you can help, because without the help of some of the past members it will be hard to get as complete an exhibition as we will other wise be able to present.
So have a look see what you have and for those of you on the mainland rather than send stuff we will likely have locally (Stornoway, Skye Benbecula 1/2 mara medals), think what you can add. Any items will need to have full information about the item, who won it, what year, time/place etc. Label all items and if a stamped addressed return envelope could be included ...... you get it all back. As far a pictures go, please select the best you have which will cut out someone up here sifting through bundles of pictures. If possible scan and print a non return picture again with as much detail as possible about the picture. Taking it a step further anyone scanning pictures could also e mail them to us? This will mean we can have wall displays (or in folders), plus e copy for power point.
For you real 'ol timers any early SRC committee meeting minutes would be great. Hey, if someone had a copy of the minutes that voted whether smoking should be allowed at committee would be a real hoot these day's! Or even old race results .... Lochinver-10 1987 and the like?
You swifter types will no doubt have district, inter-county or even National medals / trophies that would be marvelous to include in the exhibition. So swift type or ol school contributions combined will ensure we have a worth while representation of 25years of SRC/SRAC runners (athletes if you like). In future communications I will provide a current list of medal contributions that will stop duplication of items provided.
SRAC will also be hosting the North of Scotland Cross Country Championships on Saturday 27th November, which quite a coup for the club! The first time a district event has happened off the Scottish mainland. I know most of you planning to come for the reunion will not be running, but I'd like to encourage those of you previously approached to run the North's or National in the last 12 months to seriously try and get to your fittest and help SRAC give it a go in our own Castle Grounds.
Finally if you would like to book you place for the reunion, please send your deposit of £15 per person to Stuart Baird, 9 Stewart Drive, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2TUby September 20th - please make cheques payable to "SRAC (25th)". This will allow us time to organise numbers with the hotel and also finalise the cost (hopefully about£30/person). Would you also reply to this e mail and confirm intent to attend the reunion celebration and if accompanied by husband/wife etc, etc. There are some names listed below of former members, if you know of how they can be contacted please let me know. Maybe you know others that may be interested? Let me know, eh?
