NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 2009

Hope you are all having a good summer break but I am sure you are looking forward to school starting!!

There are a few things happening over the next few weeks:

This Saturday – 15th August – there is the Bragar to Shawbost 10k and Fun Run. The minimum age for the 10k is 15 so it would be good to see those members of this age group taking part. There is also a Fun Run of 2 miles for the younger athletes. There isn’t a bus organised for going over but if you would like to go and need a lift then contact me by Thursday and we can work something out. (705602). There is no minimum/maximum age limit for the Fun Run. Details of the races are on the SRAC website.   As a result of this the usual Saturday training session at the track will be cancelled.

On Saturday 22nd August 10 junior members of the Club have been selected to compete in Grangemouth as part of team Hippo. For the others the Saturday training session will be on as normal at Smith Avenue track. Even if work has started on the track, meet at the usual time and training will take place off track.

On Saturday 29th August, SRAC will be undertaking the annual Silver Trail. The Silver Trail consists of senior and junior members of the Club running a pre decided route and on the way collect monies for local charities. This year we will run from Bosta to Lemreway. Two or three minibuses will transport runners to Bosta from Stornoway and there will be a relay run from there to Lemreway. After this there will be a family celidh at the Loch Erisort Inn with young musicians Oidhahe Diciadab as well as those musical runners from the Club. Those who are not running (parents/non runners) can meet the others at the Inn. More details on the times will be given closer to the event. Tickets cost £5.00 for adults and £3.00 for juniors. All monies made will go to local good causes. Again the Saturday training session will be cancelled for this day but it is hoped that as many juniors as possible turn out to make this a great fund raising event. I would be grateful if you could complete and return the attached form by 21st August indicating if you and/or your child will be taking part in the run and if you would like tickets for the evening celidh.

Saturday 19th September sees the grand final of the Hippo series for 2009 in Inverness. This was a fantastic event last year and is open to all age groups. The hippo orgainsers arrange a buffet disco on the Saturday evening along with the presentation of prizes. I will give you more information once the orgainsers have been in touch with me regarding the event.

After this event SRAC usually take three/four weeks break between the track season and the cross country season. However during this time we will be doing a sponsored marathon relay either at the track or at the astro turf. The reason for doing this is essentially to pay for the Hippo trip to Inverness as last year this cost SRAC over £3000.00!! Again I will give you dates for all this nearer the time.

As I said there is quite a few events coming up over the next couple of months but you can keep updated by logging on to the web site for any news on these.

Regards
Adrienne
