Unde 23 Championships - New PB and a Bronze for Donnie

Following his success in the Scottish Championship’s and subsequent selection to the Scottish senior international team to compete at Loughborough. SRAC’s sprinter Donnie MacLeod competed in the Under 23 Scottish Championships this past weekend in the 400m with expectations of a good run. Donnie unluckily got drawn in lane one, not the favoured lane for the “400 lads” and “the action” (fastest runners) were out in lanes five and six! Donnie’s first quarter was conservatively run which left him chasing the leading two and his hopes on improving on his bronze at the Scottish Championships was going to be tough. He made an effort then to pull them in but in the final 100 metres he tired some and tied up before the tape! The gold and silver may have escaped him this year, but contentment with another national bronze sprints medal and an improvement of two tenths of a second for a new Personal best time of 49.3 seconds is another stride forward in the right direction for the young Stornoway sprinter! The sub 49 second race hopefully is coming soon; let’s hope for Donnie and the Western Isles that it’s going to be at the Rhodes World Island Games.

Thanks to the Scottish Community council for their assistance to travel costs for this event and the local inter- island runs in Benbecula, Skye and Harris.
