31 December 2001 - Flett Treck

Photo Montage

Fourteen hardy SRAC bogstormers turned out for the 13th Hgmanay Flett Treck. The weather was the best the race has ever had. Dougie Flett, Gavin Earons, Ross Munro and Roderick Gillies took the full nine mile Maaruig - Urgha - Rhenigidale route while the rest walked/ran the 4 mile Urgha - Rhenigidale section only. All the usual treats were enjoyed, a great run, a bracing swim in the sea, excellent food at the Rhenigidale Hostel. A great end to the year - come and join us next year!

Anyone with other photos can get them to Gavin and he will put them on the site.

Ode to Rhenigidale 2001

Four runners set off from Maaruig
A
long the Track to Urgha
The snow and ice
Made the view very nice
But keeping their feet - it was MURDER!

From Urgha the only way was up
All fourteen panted and wheezed
But the view from the top
Made everyone stop
We must have a photo - say CHEESE!

Down the zigzag path to the sea we sped
Trying hard not to slip over the cliff
We ALL jump in
And go for a swim
Do you believe it? - AS IF!

If truth be told only five brave souls
Got so much as a big toe wet
The rest just stood
Like lumps of wood
Saying "
Maybe next year - BUT NOT YET!"

The run to the hostel was simply superb
As we ran beside the sea shore
But when we got there
The van was elsewhere
No dry clothes or hot food - WHAT A BORE!

The stove was soon hot but a van there was not
So we drank what we had and we waited
And waited and waited
And waited and waited
And waited and waited - AND WAITED!

At last the van came, the food was soon cooked
And a queue formed for Tony's Beef Stew
But there was
no hurry
To taste Meg's Curry
Carnivores many - VEGETARIANS FEW!

All too soon it was time to head home
Just time for one last brew
So we drank mulled wine
For Auld Lang Syne
Same again next year? SEE YOU!
