Route

Click here to view interactive map of route

The route begins at the historic Calanais Stones, heads north over undulating terrain and passes through the village of Breasclete and on towards the village of Carloway. On your left at Dun Carloway, the eagle eyed will see an impressive ancient fortified monument called a Broch, At Carloway village the route drops down beside the river and follows it uphill for the next few miles until a broad moorland plateau is reached. Get used to it because it will be beside you for the next 10 miles or so! Occasional lochs, streams and distant views of the North Harris hills should keep your mind off the long gentle gradients that are a feature of this section as the route rolls on over to Stornoway. Once there, you leave the public highway and enter the beautiful "Castle Grounds" for the last few miles of wooded, river and sea side running. Enjoy!
