The above link takes you to an excellent article on the race by Peter Buchanan (3rd) of Portobello RC.
In the article Peter says that Mary Hunter ran the race with a GPS and it recorded 2000ft of climbing and descent on the route! The actual amount of climbing is not much more than 520 feet - tough but not quite the same as climbing Clisham! Overall the course has more downs than ups because the start is at 90 feet and the finish is at sea level. The major climbs are:
- 80 feet up North Street from sea level after mile 3
- 50 feet up Anderson Road to mile 6
- 160 feet up Willowglen around mile 7
- 70 feet up from the gate at the College
- 90 feet up from the Iron Well to the Arnish Road
- 70 killer feet at the mouth of the Creed
