Wild West 10K 2004 - 14 July 2004

Right from the start, Ross Munro and Murdo Alex Mackenzie showed that they meant business and after one kilometre they were already a couple of hundred yards ahead of the chasing pack.
Ross kept up a relentless 6 minute mile pace, pulled clear of the field to win the race in a time of 37m 22s. Although Murdo Alex could not sustain his early pace, he ran on well to finish as the top Junior in 42m 04s. Chris Shields took the opposite approach, he took it easy at the start then came through to finish in second place. Chirsty Macleod extended her recent run of good form and was the first lady home.

Further down the field it was good to see some new faces taking part - Malcolm Macaulay proved to be just too strong for Neil McRury, Chris Little and Angus Maciver.
But this race was not all about fast times, many of the runners had more modest ambitions - like just getting to the finish! The remaining runners found safety in numbers and ran in twos and threes!

Finding the finish proved to be difficult for some - Chris Ryan was caught out by the change of route from last year and when he reached what he thought was the finish line there was nobody there! While Maggie and Karen MacDonald enjoyed the Willow Glen loop so much that they did it twice - so they could claim to have won the Wild West 11K race!

Many thanks to the race sponsors - Wild West Beef Jerky - who gave a sample of their delicious product to all finishers. What is Wild West Beef Jerky? Well why not go online, read about it and then buy some! Their web address is www.wildwestjerky.co.uk
